Assisted deathYesterday, the government's 60 days for commenting on the assisted death bill were up.Very fast. Too fast. Yet, important issues have come up.Keeping in mind that members and candidates of Momentum would eventually have a free vote, here is my take on all this.First, the government has to ensure that all available innovative medicines are to be made available in Malta ao that patients have access to the latest cure.When this is in place, a fully functioning palliative cure system has to be set up to offer respite and care for all areas of suffering, on the models used by the Hospice Movement and by Mater Dei Oncology department.When this is fully functional, parliament can debate and legislate on 'living wills".After these three stages have been fully exhausted, only then should parliament debate on a bill which would allow for the possibility of assisted death.
