Alfred Sant and Evarist Bartolo have admitted  their 2000 error and now want Manoel Island to be a public park.

Yesterday, the PL President Alex Sciberras said he prefers to see his children enjoying Manoel Island as a public park.

Two days ago PL MP Edward Zammit questioned whether private companies like MIDI should be allowed to issue bonds on the strength of government concessions.

And today Robert Abela answered that he must protect the interests of the 5000 MIDI bondholders, not only the 29,000 petitioners.

Is Abela more concerned with the interests of share and bond holders when dishing out mega building permits on Maltese public land?

What about medicines?

We are talking about palliative care, living wills, assisted death.But what about medicines?Access to the right medicine at the right time is a cornerstone of achieving the best possible outcomes for patients, regardless of where they live in Europe. Between 2020 and 2023, the European Medicines Agency approved 173 innovative medicines, yet Maltese patients had access to only 17 of them through the national formulary—the lowest rate among all EU member states . This represents just 10% of available treatments, far below the European average, and highlights a stark inequity in access to life-saving therapies. It is only after all therapeutic avenues have been thoroughly explored that palliative care should be considered—not as a default, but as a compassionate last resort.In this context, Malta must also engage in a mature and respectful national dialogue on assisted death, especially as public consultation on the matter is underway. With the tenth highest GDP per capita in the EU, Malta can and must do better. We need a serious, forward-looking strategy to ensure that our healthcare system reflects our economic standing—by investing in timely access to innovative medicines, supporting patient autonomy, and embracing a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care. ...
