FOR A JUST, MODERN, STRONG
AND BEAUTIFUL MALTA

Malta is heading into a new era, and it’s crucial that you take the lead. We’re aiming for a future where our communities are vibrant and genuine, not downtrodden and lifeless. A place where work pays and inspires our youth to make the country more beautiful.

Right now, things might seem bleak and discouraging. But even though I sometimes feel angry and frustrated, I haven’t lost hope—not even a little bit. Europe too can help in making Malta more beautiful. With my experience as the Secretary General of one of the four largest parties in the European Parliament for over six years, I know what we need to do to achieve this.

Citizenship by merit: Is the government playing sly guy?

Government has been rightly forced to close down the slimy golden passport programme. We do not want millionaires who are shady to buy our citizenship.Citizenship by merit is, however, still available...and this is the way it should be.People who have proven themself in the arts, in the field of science or culture, in sports, in IT, etc. definitely deserve to become Maltese citizens...without paying a penny. However, it seems that the Maltese government is still encouraging shady characters to buy Maltese citizenship. In fact, if a person donates one million euro to a University of Malta research project, they qualify for citizenship...even if they are a money launderer. If a person donates one million euro to charity, they also qualifies for citizenship...even if they are accused of murder.Basically, here, the merit lies in donating the money not in one's natural talent.Prime Minister Abela, have you left this loophole purposely open in order to allow shady characters to continue buying Maltese citizenship? ... Mark Laurence Zammit writes "Momentum does not simply need good ideas. It needs a massive mathematical miracle or a massive shift in voter behaviour". I'm not one for miracles but "a massive shift in voter behaviour" is precisely what democracy allows for - and that's what happens with good ideas AND good people who spread the word. I'm very optimistic and energised following our first year. Rome wasn't built in a day.
